Origin of the Name
"Mbili Twiga" translates as "two giraffes" in Swahili. This symbolises the coming together of coffees from two different regions (Kilimanjaro and Arusha) in Tanzania.
Peaberry (PB) is a rare type of coffee bean that makes up only 5% of all coffee beans harvested worldwide. It refers to coffee cherries that contain only one fertilised bean (most coffee cherries contain two). The single bean forms with a distinctive pea-shape, which is what gives it the name Peaberry.
About the Artwork
The artwork for the Tanzania Mbili Twiga PB label was designed by Irish artist Anna Peters. She was inspired by the ‘endless plains’ of the Tanzanian landscape of the Serengeti region, which she captured through use of mirroring techniques. The tones of blue and green with bright pops of yellow/orange are a link to the Tanzanian national flag, as well as to nature itself, thereby bringing the concept to life.
