About the Coffee Origin
The Beloya washing station is located in the Kochere District, near Chelelektu and about 45 kilometers from Dilla, the administrative hub of the Gedeo Zone. With two processing units, the station efficiently handles the washing and drying of coffee cherries using water from a nearby river. Smallholder farmers from the surrounding hills bring their cherries to be processed, cupped, and sold here.
The coffee grown in this region benefits from high altitudes, iron-rich soils, and a range of heirloom varietals, contributing to its genetic diversity. Traditional pest control methods are commonly used, promoting organic production. After being hand-sorted at the washing station, cherries are dried on raised beds for about 21 days before milling to remove the husks.
