What are the Blas na hÉireann Awards?

Blas na hÉireann Irish Food Awards is one of the biggest competitions for quality Irish produce on the island of Ireland. Blas na hÉireann is committed to celebrating the best in Irish food and drink.

Using blind tasting, the judges will crown entrants Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards in each category. The criteria on which the product is judged, as well as the judging system itself, is now recognised as an international industry standard. The final takes place on Friday October 4th in Dingle, Co.Kerry.

Our Shortlisted Coffee: Rwanda Kinini

This single origin coffee has an impressive SCA rating of 86. This means the Speciality Coffee Association recognises that our Rwanda Kinini is a speciality coffee - an exceptionally high quality coffee that has been farmed to a significantly higher than average standard.

Behind the Beans:

R & B Import Export, founded by Jacqueline Turner and Malcolm Clear, has worked hand in hand with the local Rwandan community, many of whom are widows of the genocide. Their efforts go beyond producing world-class coffee – they’ve made significant strides in improving local education and healthcare.

Kinini coffee isn’t just known for its exceptional taste; it’s synonymous with hope and positive change in Rwanda.

We had the honour of meeting Jacqueline Turner at the recent World of Coffee event in Copenhagen. Our ethos here at Java Republic has always been to work as closely as possible with the cooperatives and farmers that produce our coffee beans. So it was extremely important and a special moment for us to meet with Jacqueline. By forging a more personal connection, we can better understand how we can support at origin and continue the relationship into a long-term partnership with R & B Import Export.
